OZZY & SHARON getting biopic at SONY / ALEC BALDWIN on-set gun tragedy / GOOGLE cuts app store vig in half
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY October 22, 2021.
Where it’s been a while since we had our Friday morning coffee at a house where I’d never actually be invited for morning coffee… or let’s face it - for anything. So let’s start our day virtually out by the pool at Justin Timberlake’s house in Hollywood Hills.
For a bargain $35 Million, the house he’s owned for the past 20 years can be yours. But unfortunately he’s taking the bedazzled denim jacket he wore when he signed the closing papers with him.

AND: Talent agency UTA’s CEO Jeremy Zimmer responded to ENDEAVOR CEO Ari Emanuel’s terse statement about a lack of interest in buying UTA a few weeks back, on stage at an ADWEEK conference yesterday:
“We have an amazing culture and we’re incredibly profitable, so we wouldn’t fit in.”

💻 THE MEDIA BIZ
SNAPCHAT stock drops 23% after their earnings call
SNAP slightly missed their revenue expectations… basically by $3 Million dollars $1.067 Billion vs $1.07 Billion. But they said it was due to the APPLE iOS privacy changes… which Wall Street thought signaled issues ahead - manifested by SNAP’s lowered projections for the rest of the year which caused the huge selloff.
SNAP also cited the ongoing tight US supply chain issues, saying it’s now affecting marketing budgets - lower inventory to sell = lower marketing budget spends.
SNAP user growth is still killing it tho - now at 306 Million Daily Active Users #DAUs, soundly beating expectations. That’s +23% from last October.
FACEBOOK and TWITTER… you’re up next week. /THR
GOOGLE cutting their ANDROID App Store vig from 30% to 15% starting in January
GOOGLE used to take 30% of an App’s revenue in their first year, then knock it down to 15% after that. Now it’s just 15% across the board from the get-go as the practice comes under greater scrutiny in the courts.
Some Streaming Music and eBook Apps will see their rates cut to 10% for… some reason.
APPLE of course sticking to its 30% across the board bounty. /Variety
ALSO IN MEDIA
DISCOVERY+ apparently cutting back on high profile projects with high paycheck talent. Has cut loose projects from Kevin Costner, Lupita Nyong’o, and a Louis CK docu from the NY TIMES among others totaling about $35 Million in costs. /Bloomberg
