📽 THE SILVER SCREEN

good to see they still make em like they used to in Hollywood… Via Giphy

BOX OFFICE

  1. “Jackass Forever” : $23.5 Million

    • 67% of audience was 18-34. ah the kids and their streaming…

    • Now the 2nd early 2000s franchise to open in the lead position at the 2022 box office. #20yearNostalgiaRule

  2. “Moonfall” : $10 Million

    • Budget was $140 Million… although LIONSGATE is just doing the US release, chipping in $15 Million to the budget. Considering the additional tens of Millions in marketing spend, this will still be a loss.

  3. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” : $9.6 Million ($749 Million US, $1.77 Billion global)

    • A very low 13% drop means it will indeed surpass “Avatar” on the all-time US Box Office list within 7 to 10 days.

  4. “Scream” : $5 Million ($69 Million US, $120 Million global)

  5. “Sing 2”: $4 Million ($140 Million US, $291 Million global)

    • Another very low 11% drop weekend-to-weekend… still also on PVOD

  • “Licorice Pizza” down to $600k, now at $12.7 Million US total. $21 Million global. /Deadline

OVER IN CHINA

CHINA’s New Years week Box Office total was $934 Million, on par with 2019, but down 23% from 2021. 20% of theaters are closed in CHINA.

  • “The Battle At Lake Changjin II” took the crown with $400 Million for the week. The original was CHINA’s highest grossing film last year at $911 Million.

  • “Too Cool to Kill” was in 2nd at $219 Million, but number 1 for best title.

And in FUTURE BOX OFFICE

  • UNIVERSAL moved the Jo Koi movie “Easter Sunday” from its pre-EASTER April 1 release date to a… nowhere near EASTER August 5 date. /Deadline

OLYMPICS Opening Ceremony gets just 8.7 Million viewers in primetime on NBC

That’s down 16% from the SUMMER Games opener from Japan. Although it was also broadcast live in the morning and on PEACOCK all day. /Deadline

  • NBC SPORTS PR was touting a “total audience” of 14 Million across all those platforms, but even that was down 35–40% from the audience tally for the 2018 Winter Games.

And.. JUST A LIST OF TV ITEMS

  • Kim Masters has a good THR column about the bad look some CNN journalists are giving with their outrage over what’s essentially the firing/resignation of a top media executive who lied about a years-long affair with a direct report. #TheZuckerEffect

  • DISNEY+ orders limited series “A Small Light” about a Dutch woman who’s family sheltered Anne Frank’s family from the Nazis for over 2 years and also kept Anne’s diary, which Anne’s father Otto later released to the world. /Deadline

  • Another SOUTH KOREAN series “All of Us Are Dead” hit the top of the NETFLIX US chart this week (it’s a YA Zombie series). /Deadline

  • HBOMAX “Boondocks” reboot not going forward, after getting a 2 season order back in 2019. /Deadline

  • STARZ “Run the World” co-star Andrea Bordeaux chooses to leave the show rather than abide by the show’s Covid Vaxx policies, although she later clarified her POV is that she was fired for choosing “to stand in (her) convictions and to honor (her) deepest core beliefs.” /Deadline

  • HBO renews “Euphoria” for a Season 3. /THR

  • SHOWTIME renews “The L Word: Generation Q” for a Season 3. /THR

👩‍💻 NEW TO WATCH:

Looks like it’s book night! Or - this was a pretty 🤯 read: Only 6 of the 109 homes that the Brad Pitt-affiliated non-profit MAKE IT RIGHT built in NEW ORLEANS post-Katrina are “in reasonably good shape” today, just 10-ish years later.

Most have issues ranging from severe mold to poor electrical work and some were simply unsalvageable and have been torn down. #GoodRead
